Do I need any boxing experience to join?
Not at all. Most of our members started with little or no boxing experience. Our coaches teach you the fundamentals step-by-step in a supportive, welcoming environment.
Will I have to spar?
No. Sparring is completely optional. Most members train for fitness, skill, confidence, and stress relief without ever sparring. For those interested, progression is coach-supervised and only introduced when appropriate.
What's the difference between a class and open gym?
Classes are structured, coach-led sessions designed around specific goals and skill development. Open gym lets you train independently using the boxing equipment, fitness area, ring, bags, and strength equipment during designated hours.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
No. Our memberships are designed to offer flexibility while encouraging consistency. We believe members should stay because they love the experience, not because they're locked in.
Can I freeze my membership?
Yes. Memberships can be placed on hold for medical reasons, travel, work commitments, or other significant life circumstances. Speak with our team and we'll find the best solution.
Is boxing a good workout for weight loss?
Absolutely. Boxing combines cardiovascular conditioning, strength development, endurance, and high-calorie expenditure, making it one of the most effective forms of exercise for improving body composition and overall fitness.
How many times per week should I train?
For most members, 2 to 4 sessions per week produces excellent results. Our coaches can recommend a schedule based on your goals, experience, and availability.
What should I bring to my first class?
Comfortable athletic clothing, a water bottle, and a willingness to learn. If you don't have boxing equipment yet, we'll help guide you through what you need.
Are the classes suitable for beginners?
Yes. Our programs accommodate all experience levels. Coaches provide modifications, progressions, and individual guidance so everyone can train safely and successfully.
How old does my child need to be to join?
Our Little Warriors program is for ages 4 to 8, and our Youth Boxing Academy serves ages 8 to 16. Programs focus on confidence, discipline, fitness, teamwork, and skill development.
What makes West End Athletic Club different?
We're more than a gym. West End combines world-class coaching, a family-oriented culture, structured programming, and a commitment to helping people become stronger, healthier, and more confident both inside and outside the gym.
Can I try a class before joining?
Yes. We offer introductory options that let you experience the coaching, community, and atmosphere before committing to a membership.
Is there parking available?
Yes. We offer free on-site parking at 283 Bering Ave, with additional street parking nearby.
Are showers, lockers, and sauna included?
Yes. Members have access to locker rooms, showers, and sauna facilities as part of their membership experience.
What results can I expect?
Results depend on consistency, effort, and lifestyle. Members commonly experience improved fitness, weight loss, increased confidence, reduced stress, better conditioning, and improved boxing skills. The best results go to those who show up consistently and trust the process.
Can I freeze or cancel my youth membership?
Yes. Youth memberships follow a 30-day written cancellation notice to info@westendac.com, and family discounts are offered.
